The Advanced Certificate in Business Management (ACBM) is a nationally recognised, career oriented programme designed to give students a solid and practical grounding in the core principles of business. Built for those who are ready to take their first confident step into the world of commerce, this programme combines management fundamentals, applied economics,business communication, and digital skills into a structured, single-semester qualification.
Aligned to the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework at SLQF Level 2, the ACBM is the ideal starting point for A/L school leavers, career starters, and anyone who wants to enter the professional world with a recognised foundation in business. Students will develop the knowledge, communication confidence, and digital competencies that today’s Sri Lankan employers look for taught through a practical, learner-centred approach that balances theory with real-world application.
By the end of the programme, graduates will be equipped to take on entry-level business roles across a wide range of industries, or to progress seamlessly into the Diploma in Business Management (DPBM) the next step in the TSHE Business Management pathway.

Programme objectives

Build business foundations: Develop a working understanding of how organisations are

structured, managed, and operated within the Sri Lankan and global business environment.

Develop digital and IT competence: Equip students with practical technology skills including

Python for business, AI applications, Excel data analysis, and cybersecurity awareness essential

for the modern digital workplace.

Strengthen communication skills: Build confident written and verbal communication skills for

professional, academic, and workplace settings.

Apply economic thinking: Enable students to analyse markets, understand consumer behaviour,

and apply basic economic principles to real business decisions.

Establish a progression pathway: Prepare students to continue into the Diploma in Business

Management or pursue entry-level employment in business, commerce, or administration.

Foster professional readiness: Cultivate workplace ethics, personal responsibility, and the

problem-solving mindset required in contemporary business environments. Admission requirements

G.C.E. Advanced Level — two passes in any stream. English proficiency at G.C.E. O/L credit

level or above is required.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate business management fundamentals — Apply core management concepts
including planning, organising, leading, and controlling to practical business scenarios.

2. Use digital tools confidently — Apply IT and digital competencies including Python, Excel,
and AI tools to support business operations and decision-making.

3. Communicate professionally — Produce clear business correspondence, deliver structured
presentations, and engage effectively in workplace communication.

4. Apply economic principles — Analyse market conditions and interpret economic data to
support informed business decisions.

5. Progress to further study or employment — Demonstrate readiness for entry-level business
roles or for progression into the TSHE Diploma in Business Management.
